The Art of Becoming
The truth is simple: to bring in something new, something old has to die. Sometimes this is a voluntary death, as we work away at old patterns and work to heal ourselves of trauma.
Lately I've been aware of a different type of death--the excruciating, painful kind, in which you are aware that you cannot live another minute in your current reality, but you have no clue what you are bringing in.
If you've been to one of my classes, you may have heard me speak about imagination new ways of being and studying other people's pattern you find a new one for yourself. That work may help.
But I really want to sit with you in that moment of terror, the precious moment in which you surrender fully to the Divine and let go.
Of your story of what needs to happen next.
Of trying to hold the fragmented pieces of yourself together
Of the need to be something other than who you were made to to be
Of any outcome, even taking control of your healing.
Because that moment with both terrifying and liberating. It is not a moment of controlling but rather becoming, a sacred dance between God and your self. You are a precious child of the Divine, and all other identities are less than that.
You do not have to know what comes next. You do not have to construct the new before the old has finished dying. You do not have to have a plan, a new identity, or even a vision of the life that comes after this one.
Sometimes faith is simply the willingness to let pieces of yourself fall away. Trust that the God who created you knows how to create you again. You may not know what is coming. But you don't have to. God does.

This is my man, Steven. The lady I got Steven from said he was grumpy and didn't like people. He was actually not getting enough to eat and needed to be on a metabolic diet. Now he is the happiest and sweetest of boys. It's a lesson for us all. Sometimes you might be having a spiritual crisis, and sometimes you just need a healthy snack.
